Im All Jazzed Up is a 2-year-old chestnut solid Paint-bred mare by Jazzing Hi AQHA and out of Amazed, by Treasured. She was bred by and is currently owned by Heritage Stables (sisters Betty and Cheryl Uphaus) of Glasgow, Montana. The Uphaus sisters have been horsewomen together since they were children. Donna Looman trained the mare for the race, and Gilbert Rivera rode her to the victory. The mare earned $5,118 for the win, making her lifetime earnings for two starts $5,278. This mare is the second offspring by Amazed, the first one Northern Cartel is a stakes winner, and ran second in the stakes this same night.

"We really had faith in this filly, she looked so impressive in the trials," said co-owner Betty Uphaus. "It was quite a night, our other horse Amazing Star ran third in this race, our 3-year-old Paint stallion (Northern Cartel) ran second in the stakes and our Quarter Horse ran second in the Quarter Horse futurity! The other twist is that the dams of Im All Jazzed Up and Amazing Star are full sisters."

Second across the wire was Shakin Thunder, who posted the fastest qualifying time in the trials for this race. Shakin Thunder is a 2-year-old sorrel overo gelding by Habitual Flyer and out of Lotta Shakin, by Royal Shake Em AQHA. The gelding was bred by and is owned by Rance Savage of Worden, Montana. The sire, Habitual Flyer, is one of only three Paint stallion offspring by Special Effort AQHA. He is double-registered APHA and AQHA and Shakin Thunder is the first Paint stakes qualifier and runner out of Habitual Flyer’s first Paint crop. Shakin Thunder was trained by Lisa Kistler and ridden by Dan Kistler, running the race with a time of 17.02 seconds and earning $1,706.

Finishing third was Amazing Star, who is owned by Heritage Stables of Glasgow, Montana. The 2-year-old sorrel solid Paint-bred mare is by Dos Poruno and is the first foal out of stakes-winner Star Trace, by Treasured. She crossed the wire with a time of 17.07 seconds earning $938 for the third-place finish. The filly was ridden by Jeffrey Jones and trained by Donna Looman. She was bred by Guy Weimer of Cushing, Oklahoma.

Other horses completing the race, along with times, include Jodys Flight (17.14 seconds), Chickie Baby (17.39 seconds), Mity Mity Aphrodite (17.89 seconds), PC Panda Bear (18.01 seconds) and Final Elimination (18.29 seconds).

More about Paint Horse racing
Horse racing has long been one of America’s favorite spectator sports. With the recent growth of the Paint Horse breed, it’s no wonder that Paints have become one of the hottest tickets in the horse racing industry.

Since 1966, when APHA officially recognized the sport, Paint racing has made major strides forward. In that inaugural year, 17 starters ran for $1,290 in just two states—Texas and Oklahoma. In 2009, more than 540 starters competed in more than 530 APHA-recognized races for record purses totaling more than $4.7 million.

A total of 17 states now feature Paint racing, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Paint Horses also race in Canada.

"With a wealth of top performing Paint racehorses, dedicated owners and talented trainers and jockeys, Paint Racing continues to remain a strong program in the horse industry," said APHA Executive Director Lex Smurthwaite. "Paint Racing enthusiasts recognized the amount of purse money available and have jumped in to take advantage of the lucrative payouts."
